How to Attach Time Logs, Fees, or Expenses to an Invoice
Metric allows users to attach time logs, fees, or expenses to an invoice without creating new line items. This is useful when you need to track these objects without generating additional line items.
Note: If you need to add new line items based on time logs, fees, or expenses, please refer to the Create an Invoice article.
General Rules
- Objects that are already attached to an invoice cannot be invoiced via another invoice.
- Attaching objects directly to an invoice does not create new line items. Instead, it only marks the objects as linked to the invoice.
- Removing a line item from an invoice will also detach the corresponding objects (time logs, fees, or expenses), but directly attached objects will remain linked even without a line item.
How to See What is Attached to an Invoice
- Open an invoice and click the Edit button.
- Scroll down to the Attached section.
- Click the Expand button to view attached objects.
Attached Objects Overview
The Attached section contains all objects (time logs, fees, and expenses) that are linked to the invoice. You can see:
- The Object Type (Time Log, Fee, Expense)
- The Attached To information, indicating the invoice to which the object is linked.
- The Status of the object (Draft, Submitted, Approved, Rejected).
Unattaching an Object
You can unattach an object from the invoice by clicking the Remove button next to it.
- Removing an object does not affect any generated line items.
- Removing a line item that was generated from an object will also unattach that object from the invoice.
